According to a study by American Communities, Christians in city areas are more than twice as likely to be persons of color than those in outer suburbs and rural communities, suggesting that intentionally recruiting and effectively training minority pastors to proclaim the Good News will lead to transformative urban communities.
“It was a tremendous time of exploring future possibilities, engaging in innovative thinking and collaborative planning. All and all it was a time where we each were mutually sharpened as we explored how the Institute would be a catalyst for city transformation.”

What are we all about?
The Institute seeks to equip pastors with the skills needed to effectively minister in diverse urban settings, promoting unity and fostering spiritual growth amidst societal challenges.
Our Approach.
The Institute leverages the voices of the city center, minority congregations, and pastors to develop a distinctive city-centered approach to preaching, interpretation of scripture, and application of scripture to defend the faith and promote Christian witness to the transformation of communities.
In our partnership with NCU, we have built a flexible, relevant ministry training program for pastors called to serve in city churches.
-
We facilitate conversations by listening with empathy to the pastors and congregations facing unique challenges, including social justice needs, economic disparities, and structural inequalities.
-
The Institute provides pastors the opportunity to share their ideas and successes to help build the ministry. We equip pastors with a biblical foundation and tools to lean on as they lead their congregations to become active disciples of Christ who reach the lost through the power of the Holy Spirit.
